Eloquent Dance is a non-profit dance organisation based in Birmingham that exists to empower young people through the performing arts. It allows young Black performers to see people like them doing what they aspire to do.

Since being founded by Romanah Buchanan and her mother Janice in 2016, Eloquent has grown significantly with dancers travelling from as far as London to attend the dance studio. But with this growth, a greater strain has fallen on the shoulders of Romanah’s staff.

Romanah and her team make a conscious effort to instill confidence in the performers from a young age. They achieve this through empowerment workshops run by Janice. These workshops are not only an investment in the young performers as individuals but also in Eloquent’s staffing needs. Many of the business’s coaches have gone out into the world, excelled in the performance space, in part thanks to their confidence, and then returned to contribute to Eloquent in some way.

This is just one of the innovate ways Romanah has grown the Eloquent team while also engaging and retaining the staff she already had. Over the last two years, Eloquent has scaled its employee count by 20% allowing its two studios to operate with maximum efficiency.
