The national chair of the Federation of Small Businesses recently stated that “a lot of small businesses are left with no choice but to up prices as their overheads spiral.” However as the cost of living crisis affects consumer spending, SMEs need to remain as competitive as possible.

One of the biggest concerns for small businesses is how to reduce the impact of soaring energy costs this winter. To weather this storm, SMEs are looking to adapt and innovate to reduce energy waste, seek out new products and take advantage of government support. In this session, we highlighted some practical ways that businesses can manage their energy costs, signpost initiatives and schemes that can support SMEs and explore how business leaders can support their employees.

Our speakers provided practical pointers on:

  • Guidance on monitoring energy use and mitigating waste
  • Exploring alternative energy sources and suppliers
  • How to access support schemes and initiatives to reduce bills
  • How business leaders can support their employees during the crisis
